Nepal is home to a rare collection of vulnerable and severely endangered birds, with over 39 species assessed as globally threatened, including two vagrants (Long-tail Duck and Indian Vulture). While 168 different species are assessed as nationally threatened. This collection draws ornithologists from all over the world. Spiny Babbler (Turdoides nipalensis) is a single Endemic bird and Himalayan Monal (Lophophorus impejanus) is National Birds of Nepal.

There are several rare species of the birds to see in Nepal such as Himalayan Monal, Ibisbill, Snowcocks, Pheasant and many more in Himalayan region. Great hornbill, Bengal florican, Sarus Crane and many more in Terai. Koshi tapu wildlife reserve, Chitwan national park, Lumbini, Bardiya national park and Shuklaphanta national park are popular places to see the birds. Sivapuri nagarjun national park, Godawori fulchoki forest and Ranibari are the best within Kathmandu valley.
