The Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve is a haven for birdwatchers, located in eastern Nepal on the Sapti Koshi River's flood plains. The park, which was created in 1976, covers 175 km2 in total, with a 24 km stretch that runs along the river. The Sapta Koshi River gives the reserve its life and bestows onto this region an abundance of charm, tranquility, and natural beauty. Otters, the Gharial, and Gangetic dolphins are among the uncommon species that call the reserve home. A barrage on the southern edge of the park developed a water reservoir where thousands of waders and wildfowl rest throughout their migration. Numerous tiny marshlands, lakes, and grasslands were also built, offering a safe haven for birds and birdwatchers.

In addition to birds, this reserve is home to uncommon species including wild buffaloes and other mammals like hog deer, wild boar, and spotted deer, as well as small animals like mongooses. The settlements close to the reserve, where people from all ethnic backgrounds coexist peacefully, offer a particular kind of culture. There are wooden attic dwellings on the second floor, supported by strong wooden poles, which set the housing structure apart from other villages in Nepal. Peace and quiet can be ensured by visiting Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve, where visitors can enjoy the riverside sand beach, go boating in the river, and unwind on the small, seasonal beaches. The primary draws of the park are its plants and animals, but there are other delights as well.
